Hills Youth Theatre
Seniors’ August production

While historically driven, the play seeks not to re-tell the landing or the ensuing futile battle in Gallipoli, but rather concentrates on those left behind. Set in the Adelaide Hills, 1918 explores the lives of the locals: the football team members who sign up together, the local girls who support the war efforts of the Cheer-Up Hut, the racial tensions that erupt with the German settlers, and the heartbreak of families torn apart.
It is particularly poignant, as our actors are of the same age as their ancestors – those who valiantly fought to create the safe and harmonious Australia we know today.

While the Allies announced their victory and the history books were written, the devastation on those who fought and those who were left behind, is rarely discussed.

Production fee and form

HYT charges a $30 production fee for each student taking part in the show. There are many costs involved in bringing a production to the stage and this small fee covers things such as: printing scripts, photocopying, music CDs, costumes, set, lighting, graphics, props, tickets, banners, publicity, tea, coffee, toilet paper and so on.

The online production form MUST be completed for each senior student, to indicate either their participation and payment OR their non-involvement in the August show, BEFORE Saturday 30th June.
