CINDERELLA - A PANTOMIME (2016)

Hills Youth Theatre proudly presents
Written by Ben CrockerAdapted by Judy Sampson and Peter CollinsDirected by Judy Sampson12th – 17th January 2016SOLD OUT!Thank you all for your wonderful support!
To celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2016, Hills Youth Theatre will revive an old, favourite tradition – the pantomime! Each year, from the early 1990’s until 2004, then tutor and now beloved Patron Joan Leslie wrote and directed HYT’s annual summer pantomime which were enormously successful and usually played to sold-out houses. Now, eleven years later, HYT will bring the fun and magic of pantomime to a new audience with the timeless fairy tale, Cinderella.
This timeless tale of Cinderella who goes from rags to riches will delight audiences of all ages. The story follows the traditional tale with the Evil Step-Mother and Ugly step-sisters mistreatment of Cinderella in the Mansion kitchen; the faithful Buttons who is in love with her; The Prince and his servant Dandini swap roles causing mayhem; Cinderella’s kindness to the old woman who turns out to be her Fairy Godmother (the Dame in the show); a magical transformation, the splendour of the Ball and the handsome Prince; the dramatic exit as the clock strikes midnight; the hunt for the slipper’s owner and the glorious happy ending.
Pantomime is a type of musical comedy stage production, designed for family entertainment. It was developed in England and is still performed, generally during the Christmas and New Year season, especially in the UK and, to a lesser extent, in other English-speaking countries. Modern pantomime includes songs, slapstick comedy and dancing, employs gender-crossing actors, and combines topical humour with a story loosely based on a well-known fairy tale. It is a participatory form of theatre, in which the audience is expected to sing along with certain parts of the music and shout out phrases to the performers.
Twists, turns, music, mirth, magic, mayhem and madcap audience participation make this a wonderful and entertaining production that the whole family will enjoy.
