Synopsis
It is Christmas Eve – and in the little German town of Heidelberg, everyone has gathered in the town square awaiting the Tree Topping Ceremony, admiring the beautiful Christmas tree, before heading to Stahlbaum Manor for a sumptuous supper. It is an occasion full of tradition, dancing, singing and gift giving. Heinrich Drosselmeyer, Clara's Uncle, a talented toymaker, has brought with him gifts for the children, including a set of toy soldiers for Tommy, Clara’s little brother, and a beautiful Nutcracker doll for Clara. Tommy teases Clara by playing with her new Nutcracker and carelessly drops it, causing no damage but upsetting Clara greatly.Tommy is sent to bed but Clara remains in the parlour, snuggled in a big old chair where Aunty Emmeline tells her a bedtime story. As the clock strikes midnight, Clara sees her Nutcracker, now grown to life size, along with her favourite doll, Marie. It is a night full of magic as suddenly, mice begin to fill the room and Clara finds herself in the midst of a battle between an army of toy soldiers, led by the Nutcracker and the mice Troopers. On this occasion the toy soldiers with the help of Clara defeat the mice but they know that this is not the end of their trials……….Together with the Nutcracker, Tommy, Clara and her doll Marie travel to the Land of Sweets, once ruled by The Nutcracker and the Sugar Plum Fairy. The evil Mouse King and his even more sinister mother, the Queen Mother, have taken over the palace, banished many of the dolls to toy shops all over the world and made the remaining dolls his slaves, to do his bidding at all times. The only way to rescue the dolls is for the Nutcracker to battle the Mouse King and break the spell……….then all will be restored in the Land of Sweets with the Nutcracker transformed back into Prince Eric to rule his land in peace and harmony. Together with the Sugar Plum Fairy, her fairy friends, the Dolls and the Toy Soldiers, Tommy and Clara find themselves in a magical, but sometimes scary adventure…… Clara saves the day and in honor of the young heroine, a celebration is held ……… All is well in the Land of Sweets……Clara finds herself back in her snuggly arm chair and it is Christmas morning.
